Christine Winterbourn
Christine Winterbourn is in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, University of Otago Christchurch. She is an Auckland University chemistry graduate who received her PhD in biochemistry from Massey University. She is a leading researcher in free radical biology and oxidative stress. Her current research focuses on thiol proteins in antioxidant defence and redox regulation, peroxidase biochemistry and the role of neutrophil-generated oxidants in microbial killing and inflammatory disease. She has received numerous awards including from the Society for Free Radical Research (International), and the US and Australasian Societies for Redox Biology, as well as the New Zealand Rutherford Medal She is a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit.
